For many years the Green Haven Improvement Association has been working with the Anne Arundel County traffic and engineers on trying to fix some of the problems we have with the roads in making them safer for the residents.
One of the latest intersections we are working on is the Catherine Avenue and Duvall Highway location.
Studies have been made the last few years on this location, a new house was hit three times in one month, something has to be done.
The traffic and engineers met with the Board of Directors to get their approval on  May 20,2008 and than after their approval met with the members at our regular meetng on May 27,2008.
Many questions were asked, it seems that all approved of the proposal, pictured above.
The traffic and Enginerers now have to check with all the departments that would be affected, to see if there is any problems. If everything is okay, the engineers will start working on this project
In general what the project will do is to turn Catherine Avenue between Duvall Highway and 205th.Street to a one way going North. They will place stop signs on Duvall Hgihway  at the intersection of Catherine Avenue, one for the east traffic and one for the west traffic. These signs will be set back far enough to allow traffic to make the turns. After the final approval, they will have to place notices in advance that there will be traffic changes in the near future.  Any questions on this, call James Schroll or Edward Horky at 410 - 222 - 7331.                                                       UPDATE                                         On August 4,2008, the Traffic Engineers will post  Catherine Avenue and Duvall Highway on the new traffic pattern. The new change will take effect on  August 14,2008.   So please be alert, and hope this will solve the traffic accidents at this area.

The Green Haven Improvement Association,Inc. will again sponsor a "Flea Market" on Saturday October 17,2009 from 7:a.m. til 11:30 a.m.

The flea market will be held at the parking lot of the roller rink on Mountain Road west of Outing Avenue.

      New  Maryland State Law

A new Maryland State Law taking effect January 1,2009 will require persons charged with a violent crime or an attempt to commit one in Maryland must submit a DNA sample to a state database before conviction. Until now, the law required only convicted felons to submit samples.                       State and local authorities have spent months preparing to implement the law, which expands Maryland's previous rules for DNA collection.
More than 400 state and local law enforcement personnel have been trained to carry out the law. About 50,000 kits with swabs to collect samples were sent in December throughout the state.
The state police crime lab has hired three scientist, and $400,000 in equipment has been purchased to handle thousands of additional samples. An automated computer system will enable booking or charging officers to check whether a person who has been charged must submit a DNA sample.
An amendment was made to the new law to address various concerns, including adding an automatic expunging process for people found innocent.
Along with violent crimes, the Maryland law will affect people charged with first, second or third-degree burglary.

                         Towing  Practices
Councilman Jones is preparing a bill to introduce at the next Council's meeting concerning  new licensing rules aimed at curbing predatory towing.
The legislation will forbid towing companies to employ spotters who watch parking lots waiting for cars to park illegally. It requires towing companies to have a contract with and a specific request from the parking lot owner in order to tow vehicles. The tow zones must be clearly marked and include directions on how to retrieve vehicles.
The bill will also limit how much the tow company can charge, requires them to keep detailed records and mandates they release a vehicle immediately if the owner shows up before it is towed from the lot. It also forbids lot owners from having financial or family ties to towing companies that profit from towing vehicles from their lots.

More on this can be had by checking the February 4th edition of the Maryland Gazette on page A2.
